Solutions for Nuclear Plants
Applied technology initiatives enable D-R’s Engineered Solutions group to incorporate the same technology and engineering standards used to design and produce its own steam turbines, and apply them to non-Dresser-Rand units. Expanding into the boiler feed pump product niche with specially designed steam turbines is a logical step for Dresser-Rand.
The application is a natural fit for Dresser-Rand’s rugged API engineered steam turbines, and complements our experience in the oil and gas, power generation and Navy nuclear markets. Existing turbines already meet requirements in power speed ranges.
Applying Dresser-Rand’s signature experience and design knowledge to every individual project, Dresser-Rand can deliver smart, innovative solutions to our clients using materials that help solve problems common to feed turbines, such as wet steam erosion.

Case Study:
Dresser-Rand revamped three non-OEM steam turbines and manufactured three brand new turbines for the Susquehanna Nuclear Plant, a PP&L Corporation. All six of the turbines feature D-R flow paths with profile ring and vane (PRV) diaphragms. The PRV design allows the revamped turbines to produce more power without needing a proportional increase in steam consumption or taking more physical space. This offers PPL commonality in spares and units to match the existing mounting footprint, reducing installation time.
